We've had an interesting exchange with Michael Liu of Yuanquan Fruit and Vegetable Planting Co., Ltd., listened to the story of Michael and Haygrove, and learned about his views on how to develop modern blueberry cultivation given the current technologies available.
1. The Farm
Q: Please briefly introduce the relevant situation of your company and farm?
A: Our first blueberry farm was established in 2016 in Xishuangbanna. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, the geographical environment is very suitable for growing berries. The current planting area of the farm is approximately 1,000 mu and we hope to expand to more than 2,000 mu in the future.
If we talk about our connection with commercial agriculture, it probably started with my father’s generation. We have been in the vegetable-growing industry more than 10 years ago. Over the course of 16 years, we have slowly familiarised ourselves with blueberry cultivation. Yuanquan has always relied on the latest science and technology for agricultural production, and has continued to innovate and advance ourselves based on the current mainstream and cutting-edge technology.
Q: What opportunity made you decide to develop your business in the berry field?
A: A few years ago, when we started our researchon berry cultivation, Yunnan was not yet one of the main producing areas of blueberries in China. Later, we cooperated with well-known companies in the industry to grow blueberries and achieved good results.
We also intend to continue to expand in the industry. Looking back, our decision at that time seemed to be a bit risky, but it is the same boldness that gave us the courage to "be the early bird", and we will continue to develop in the same direction of innovating and creating.
2. Working with Haygrove
Q: How did you know about Haygrove? Why did you want to work with Haygrove at the time?
A: Before entering the blueberry industry, we conducted inspections and investigations on the planting system. After many studies, we finally chose Haygrove as our partner because of Haygrove's rich experience in the field of berry cultivation and polytunnel technology.
Q: During the use process, what do you think are the advantages of Haygrove polytunnels?
A: As we all know, the tunnel plays a key role in the protection of seedlings and fruits. Since installation, the tunnels have not had any problems. This guarantee of stability and quality is what we care about most and is Haygrove's most commendable advantage.
Secondly, Haygrove's professional attitude in berry cultivation is also very commendable. A company driven by technology and a meticulous professional attitude is the moat to maintain the company's steady development. This is also our corporate culture that Yuanquan has always adhered to.
Q: If there are new projects in the future, will you still choose to cooperate with Haygrove?
A: Of course, Haygrove has always been our important business partner. If there are projects in the future, we will still choose Haygrove's polytunnels.
3. Future Outlook
Q: Could you please briefly introduce how Yuanquan has developed to this scale today?
A: I think our core competitiveness lies in the stability and strong cohesion of the team. The development of the company is directly attributable to the immense talent of our team. The start-up team which helped set up Yuanquan has witnessed the success and has also joined us in blueberry cultivation. The sense of identity for the company and the industry, and that everyone's goals can be aligned at all times and twisted into a rope that remains strong and unbreakable. I think these are the cornerstones of our team's continued vigorous development.
At the same time, we recognize that blueberry cultivation requires consistent investment in science and technology, and we have also discovered talents to help lead the high-quality development of the blueberry industry with technological innovation in Yuanquan.
Many factors complement each other and has allowed us to flourish.
Q: We heard that you dived straight into the berry business after coming back from studying abroad. Such enthusiasm is worth commending. It is being speculated that it is now a good era for the domestic berry business, care to share your views on the blueberry industrial development in the next 5-10 years?
A: I believe the industry is still a blue ocean. With the improvement of our planting technology and the quality of facilities, the industry will also make great progress.
As a participant in the blueberry industry, we have been striving for excellence in product quality since the beginning of our business. We have also invested a lot of high-quality manpower, technology and capital into the blueberry industry, hoping to promote the development of the blueberry industry through the joint efforts of ourselves and our colleagues. Healthy and rapid development.
